By guaranteeing some of that salary and converting it into a bonus that can be stretched out we might gain $4-$5 mil worth of additional cap space. I think that could be a smart thing to do and God know he's earned both the paycheck and the right to a few more years as a Bear.
He may be 32 yrs old but I don't see any signs of him slowing down and he's without a doubt one of the smartest players in the game and one of the best play makers in the NFL. I'd like to see him keep covering Megatron until he has to do it from a wheel chair, LOL.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Peanut has earned a extension with a raise. Emery will get it done in a cap friendly manner and everyone will be happy. Free up mare $ for FA as well.

I had no idea that much cap savings was possible that way. This is such a no-brainer on every level. Is there anyone here who doesn't want to see Peanut stay past one more year?
I didn't think so.

two years would be ideal but three years would be more enticing for him.

Well if you take $8 mil he's due in salary and do a three year extension that cuts that part of the cap hit to just $2 mil per year or $2.67 mil per if you do a two year extension. Now you give him the vet minimum salary for 2013 which is $950k and his cap cost is anywhere from $2.95 mil +$550k = $3.5 mil to $3.62 mil + $550k = $4.17 mil. That's roughly $4-$5mi less than he's on the cap books for now and he takes home almost $9.5 mil in cash this year.
To me it's a "just do it" and clear some cap space but who knows.

Extend Tillman, restructure Pep, and whatever w/Urlacher. Until we draft a big CB we need him vs. #1 wr's like Megatron. Peanut is close to breaking Dawkin's records for most T.O.'s as well as climbing the interception and pick 6 charts.

If that's the case extend him immediately. The Bears will need every penny they can get to fill holes.

Absolutely, may help the cap and he has earned an extended stay

If you have a corner that could shut down one of the best ever in his prime (Moss), allowed only one catch in the sb and still shut down the best today with regularity, you should want to keep him around. The new DC has to want to work with him, and if Conte doesn't make impressive leaps, I could see Tillman taking his spot.
