Chris Harris tweets retirement after eight years in NFL

Veteran NFL safety Chris Harris announced his retirement on Twitter on Saturday with the following tweet:

Chris Harris @ChrisHarrisNFL After 8 awesome yrs in the NFL I'm deciding to retire. This was one heck of a ride and I've been extremely blessed to have played this game
Harris is a capable journeyman who played for four teams over eight NFL seasons, and finished with 439 tackles and 16 interceptions. He played in five games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.

Harris started seven games for the 2006 Chicago Bears team that went to the Super Bowl. In 2007, he had 96 tackles and eight forced fumbles for the Carolina Panthers.
Actually one of my favorite DBs in Bears history.

Thanks for the great memories! It was proud having you represent the Bears, wish you nothing but the best in the future. Go #46!

I still can't see why JA let him walk in the first place. He should have been a Bear for his entire career. Just another of the "Angler's" major blow-ups.

You don't know how pissed I was when I first heard about JA releasing him after one season.

All the best to ya' Chris Harris you were an under rated guy most of your career but you turned up big many times. Good Luck!

Looks like Harris is back with Da Bears doing some of the dirty work for the DC and positional coaches.

    Via @DanPompei...
Former Bears safety Chris Harris hired as defensive quality control coach with the Bears, source says.

Why does hiring Chris Harris as a coach make sense for the Bears? My take: Harris always was known as a student of the game and became the player he was in part because of film study. What's more, he played for new Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker in Jacksonville. In his new role as defensive quality control coach, Harris will rely on his knowledge of the game.

    Great to have Chris back!

This clearly indicates that the Tampa 2 (4-3 style) Defense will be back next year.

I was one of those very vocally against the dumbass trade JA made to send him to Carolina. He went from very good to very bad upon his return, but his good times in the first season far outnumbered his bad ones in his second season. He's a guy who clearly maxed out his average talent and succeeded in this league, and that should make him a good tutor and coach. Good luck to him and glad to have him!
