Let's say the Bears had an extra high 1st round pick
Let's say it's a top 10 talent, but the rule is NO OFFENSIVE LINEMEN.
YES, that means we spend our 20th pick on an offensive lineman, or any pick after that, or FA, whatever. Not asking about that at all, just asking, what player would you add, and why?
Normally, I'd go with Manti Te'o, but to mix things up a bit, I'd pick Johnathon Hankins, DT out of Ohio State. Dude is a beast, and it seems the wearing down of our defense each year starts with our d-line. The more youth and depth we add to the mix, the more they're going to be able to hold up against the grind of a 16 game schedule, and not rely on the unknown that is our offense as much as possible.

This is a good question, I would go with an Left Tackle as we suck big time on this position.

Call me crazy, and excluding jockel....I'd go with milliner
Nobody in the top 10 blows me away so could add this guy for an insurance policy to cover megatron and the gb flavor of the day in the future
That being said if the bears were in the top 10 I'd advocate a trade down to 11-16

Good thread and I was going to suggest drafting two olinemen cause it would save a hell of allot a cap lol
But I will play by your rules and suggest drafting a lb, de, dt, wr. I'm not going to name a specific player cause too early to tell where players will go in draft realistically but that would be my priority in that order

DT Star Lotulelei, if we could draft that high.
If not, then I would do something crazy here. I'd go with 2 LB's in the 1st round. I'd take OLB Jarvis Jones first, then I'd pull the trigger on MLB Te'o if he's still on the board at 20 (and I think that's a possibility). Then I'd use the next 3 picks on the best OL players available (interior linemen probably......a center and 2 stellar guards).
I'd then pick up the BEST free agent LT available in free agency.
This would assure us of a GREAT linebacker corps for years to come. Te'o is groomed to step into Urlacher's shoes at some future point. Probably 2014, but if Urlacher is injured or doesn't play well in 2013, then we have our guy to replace him. Jarvis Jones would replace Roach immediately, and ultimately be Briggs replacement a few years from now when he retires. This way you'd avoid a crisis situation at LB. We'd continue the Chicago tradition of having solid linebackers - for years to come.

Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Top 10 pick: LB Alec Ogletree: Terrific quickness around the edge, capable of making stops in the backfield and is fast in pursuit. Doesn't shy from making the big hit. Arrives with deceiving power and violent intentions. Lengthy frame, athleticism and experience in coverage. Has the long arms scouts like from linebackers.
OR
LB Jarvis Jones: Far from just a pass rusher, Jones proved capable of playing the run as well as dropping back into coverage, demonstrating the combination of instincts, passion and physicality to catch the attention of scouts despite the fact that 2011 was his first season as a starter.
20th pick: C Barrett Jones

Without being able to select an OL, my first thoughts go to LB but there really isn't any worth a top-10 pick. So there is a lot of strong DLs to be had. With the phone in hand to make the pick its down to either Damontre Moore (DE) or Star Lotulelei (DT).
I think the combo of Melton and Lotulelei in the middle would open up some opportunities for Peppers and Wootton on the outside. Teams might have to routinely leave a TE or RB back to contain the Rush Men.
None of my posts on this forum have been aided by the use of deer-antler spray...

I truly agree with your solution, but do you think that Bears will do that? I don't have a big clue on how good is Trestman, but hopefully I am guessing that this year we will have a good draft and he will do a good job.

I'd use it to trade down and stockpile depth. Oh and use a pick later on to get DE Markus Hunt.
